Anti-Horse Prescribed Burn
After a very successful prescribed burn last Sunday in the Anti-Horse Prescribed Burn Project, the Hell Canyon Ranger District on the Black Hills National Forest will continue to burn additional units of the 2,797 acres tomorrow, Sunday March 27, if conditions allow. The Anti-horse project area is located approximately 18 miles west of Custer, SD or 2 miles northwest of Jewel Cave National Monument. Smoke will be visible for several miles and could impact Highway 16 west of Custer.  “The Hell Canyon Ranger District has been planning this project for several years and fire crews have been patiently waiting for conditions to be right,” said Scott Jacobson, Public Affairs Officer for the Black Hills National Forest. “The prescribed burn will not be ignited unless conditions meet the criteria described in the burn plan.”
