February 25, 2022 - Pile Burning

Hell Canyon fire (southern hills) will be burning 5 machine piles north of Summit Ridge today, 2/25/22.

February 23, 2022 - Pile Burning

 Black Hills National Forest

Northern Hills Ranger District fire is planning to burn approximately 100 hand piles in the Deadwood Fuels project area, off Mount Roosevelt Road (County Road 133), tomorrow (2/23/22), conditions permitting.

Mystic District is planning to burn 12 machine piles in the Whitetail project area approx. 4 miles southwest of Rochford, SD. Smoke will be visible throughout the week and adjacent to the Whitetail Peak area, west of S. Rockford Rd.

South Dakota Wildland Fire

The Rapid City District Office is planning to burn approximately 1.5 acres of slash piles 5 miles southwest of Rapid City along Sheridan Lake Road.

Custer State Park

Firefighters will continue to burn slash piles on Wilson's Corner which is located at the intersection of 16A and Needles Highway and near Bluebell Campground.




February 22, 2022 - Pile Burning

 Black Hills National Forest

The Black Hills National Forest is planning to burn piles throughout the week (2/21 - 2/25/22), as predicted snow and cold are expected to create favorable conditions for pile burning.

Bearlodge Ranger District (Sundance, WY): is burning piles located in the Lytle Creek, Blacktail Creek and Lame Jones area.

They are burning south of State HWY 24 off of FS road 838., roughly 15 air miles NW of Sundance, WY. These piles are a part of Skull, Leopard and Goblin timber sales.

Bearlodge is also burning off of Forest Service Road 830, NW of Bearlodge Campground. Piles are part of the Lost Spring and Ram Timber Sales. The most visible piles will be directly across Hwy 24 from the Bearlodge CG.

Mystic Fire District (Rapid City, SD): will be conducting a pile burn on Bogus Jim Road starting Tuesday, 2/22/2022, for the next several days. Three handpile units along Bogus Jim Road may be burned as conditions permit. Smoke may be visible for several days in the Green Mountain Subdivision after ignitions.

Mystic will be burning machine piles, approx. 3 miles NW of Deerfield Reservoir and piles adjacent to the Flag Mountain area, west of Reynolds Prairie. Smoke will be visible throughout the week.


Hell Canyon Ranger District (Custer, SD/Newcastle, WY): is planning to burn piles located south of Custer Mountain, and along Glen Erin Road, and East of Sydney Park Road. Road signs will be posted.

 South Dakota Wildland Fire

The Hot Springs District Office will be burning 40 piles 3/4 mile southwest of Hot Springs in the Country Club Estates area. Smoke may be visible in the area for several days. Firefighters will continue to monitor as appropriate.

Custer State Park

Firefighters are planning on burning approximately 20 acres of slash piles on Wilson's Corner which is located at the intersection of 16A and Needles Highway. If conditions permit they will also plan on burning approximately 8 acres of slash piles near the Bluebell Lodge Campground.

Black Hills National Forest

On Monday (2/21/22), Northern Hills will be burning piles, as conditions permit, on the east side of Hwy 385, north of the Merritt Estes junction and will also burn additional piles north and south of Custer Crossing.

Also on Monday (2/21/22), Mystic fire will be burning piles in the Doty area if conditions are in prescription. Smoke could impact the Emerald Ridge subdivision and Nemo Road, and be visible from Rapid City, SD for several days.

Hell Canyon is planning to burn piles in the Glen Erin Road area south of Custer, SD Monday (2/21/22), conditions permitting.

February 17, 2022 - Pile Burning

Black Hills National Forest

Mystic Fire and Fuels (central hills) are planning to burn 48 piles west of Deerfield Reservoir today, Feb. 16, conditions permitting.

February 10, 2022 - Pile Burning

With incoming snow and as conditions permit, Fire crews on the North Zone of the Black Hills National Forest are planning to burn piles starting tomorrow, 2/10/22. The Bearlodge Ranger District is planning to continue burning piles (created from tornados) approximately 10 to 15 miles southeast of Sundance, WY. Northern Hills is planning to burn piles on the east side of HWY 385, north of the Merritt Estes junction and additional piles north and south of Custer Crossing.
