  • Fire initially reported on 8-27-18 at 14:50
  • Location: 5 miles south of Hot Springs near Wall Canyon. Fire started on State land but is burning on both State and Forest Service land.
  • Size: approximately 43 acres
  • Resources Responding: crews will continue mop up and patrol through the afternoon and tomorrow for additional mop up and patrol as needed
  • Cause is lightning
  • 100% contained

Wall Canyon Fire

  • Fire initially reported on 8-27-18 at 14:50
  • Location: 5 miles south of Hot Springs near Wall Canyon. Fire started on State land but is burning on both State and Forest Service land.
  • Size: approximately 43 acres
  • Resources Responding: state, local, NE, BKF, state dozer and VFDs
  • All aircraft have been release from the fire
  • Cause is lightning
  • Weather is helping as there are rain showers currently. Terrain and access were difficult which hindered firefighting. 
  • 75% contained and full containment and control is expected by tomorrow evening.

  • Today, firefighters plan to take advantage of cooler temperatures and higher humidity to continue building containment lines using dozers, hand crews, and engines. Ground resources will use air resources when needed. 
  • A Type 2 Team has been ordered and is en route. Current organization will evaluate fire complexity and behavior to determine future resource needs.

Notice from Fall River County Emergency Management: 

“The Incident Commander for the Vineyard Fire has lifted all the mandatory evacuations. People may return to their homes, however, erratic fire behavior means that you may be asked to evacuate again.  If you decide to return home we would ask that you remain vigilant of the fire around you, stay out of the way of firefighters, and keep your bags packed so that you are ready to leave.”

  • Vineyard Fire is now a Type 3 organization under incident commander Ray Bubb.
  • There is a Red Flag Warning for the fire area from noon to 9 pm due to forecasted low relative humidity and expected gusty winds.

  • First Reported Saturday August 11 at about 4 pm
  • Location 1 mile E of Hot Springs on Highway 18 
  • Size: 180 acres 
  • Fire grew approximately 50 acres overnight on the east side. Firefighters focused on structure protection overnight. Additional resource reporting to the fire today.
