Fire
officials are planning to continue ignition of the Prairie prescribed fire on
the Black Hills National Forest today, Friday, December 12.
Starting
mid-morning, fire crews plan to burn about 160 acres.
The
prescribed burn will take place approximately 2 miles southwest of Hisega, 4
miles southeast of Pactola Reservoir and 1 mile east of Hwy 16.
Fire
will be confined primarily to south-facing slopes and bordered by snow and
frozen fuels limiting fire behavior on north-facing slopes. Crews will continue
to monitor the burn after ignition is complete.
Smoke
may be visible for several days from Highway 385, Sheridan Lake Road, and Rapid
City.
