Smoke will be visible for several miles and could impact Highway 16 west of Custer.  “The Hell Canyon Ranger District has been planning this project for several years and fire crews have been patiently waiting for conditions to be right,” said Scott Jacobson, Public Affairs Officer for the Black Hills National Forest. “The prescribed burn will not be ignited unless conditions meet the criteria described in the burn plan.”
